The region of many opportunities

Kantri ry or Leader Kantri is a Finnish non-governmental non-profit association and a LAG (Local Action Group) developing the rural areas of Kangasala, Lempäälä, Nokia, Orivesi, Pirkkala, Tampere, Vesilahti and Ylöjärvi.

Since our founding in 1997, our mission has been rural development and supporting local communities and companies in developing their own operations and future. From the beginning, Kantri has distributed financial support and know-how to grassroots activities in rural areas.

”Region of many opportunities” is a joint, future-oriented, genuinely local Leader strategy for the years 2023-2027 that covers the eight municipalities of the Tampere region, promotes the region’s strengths and identity. It is implemented especially with EU Leader funding. The most urban parts of Kangasala, Nokia, Pirkkala, Tampere and Ylöjärvi are excluded from the EU’s Leader funding area.

Development priorities for 2023–2027

Our new strategy has four priorities: Vibrant region, Communal region, Green region and Kid’s and youth´s region. In addition to these, the cross-cutting themes are Internationality, Smart solutions, Innovativeness and Environmental responsibility.

Vibrant region

The aim of the measures of the Vibrant region priority is to improve the conditions for entrepreneurship and livelihoods in the Kantri region, for example by promoting small entrepreneurship and developing entrepreneurs’ networks and cooperation.

Communal region

The Communal region priority recognizes people as a significant asset of the region. By being active, you can move towards common goals. The goal is to improve the conditions for rural living in a versatile way, for example services and the framework for hobbies including all user groups.

Green region

The measures of the Green Region priority aim to improve the state of the environment by, among other things, promoting the preservation of biodiversity, valuable habitats and landscapes through maintenance and restoration measures and reducing the load on the environment and waterways.

Kid´s and youths´ region

The goal of Kid´s and youth´s region priority is to improve the well-being of children, young people and families, the conditions of the growing environment and the conditions for inclusion. The focus is also on Kantri’s Youth Leader, although its projects also support the implementation of Kantri’s other goals.

Financing plan

Leader funding of 4,4 million € for years 2023-27 has been allocated for Kantri´s strategy.

International and transnational cooperation

International cooperation, one of our cross-cutting themes, is an important tool for local development. We have implemented and will continue to implement several cooperation projects based on our strategy and local needs.

Youth-Leader

Youth-Leader encourages young people to plan and implement their own projects by offering them funding!

Financed by our municipalities, it is available in all Kantri´s area including cities.
